Field Guide to Grasshoppers, Katydids, and Crickets of the United States
Differs from most other band-winged grasshoppers by having transparent hind wings, lacking bands and other forms of pigmentation. In other respects, however, this yellowish or gray-brown grasshopper is quite typical. Median ridge on the pronotum is slightly elevated and notched. Forewings bear dark round or oval blotches. When viewed from above, amber lines on the forewings converge to form a distinct V shape, Lateral lobes of the pronotum are marked with black. Hind femora normally bear black bands. Hind tibiae are yellowish. Males are 20-25 mm long, females 25-31 mm.
