Field Guide to Grasshoppers, Katydids, and Crickets of the United States
This species derives its name from the bluish or bluish-green hind wings that are found in most individuals. In addition to the bluish basal portion of the hind wing, a black central band is also present, and the wing tip is transparent. In New Mexico, yellow-winged specimens are known, but even these have a greenish cast basally. Gray in overall body color. Forewings are marked with dark spots that form irregular transverse bands. Outer face of the hind femora bears two dark bands; the inner face is mostly black but with two light bands. Hind tibiae are blue or bluish green. Males are 25-35 mm long, females 28-40 mm.
