ID Remarks: @borisb thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I looked at iNat obs for Attelabinae in Texas and Homoeolabus analis looks like a good match and appears to be common in Central Texas. Are there other similar species that might be difficult to distinguish from H. analis that might warrant classifying this one at the genus level?

Occurrence Remarks: A tiny red beetle with narrow head perched on the edge of a newly sprouted common hop tree leaf. It was about 3-5 mm length. When I went to maneuver the leaf for a different angle, it dropped to the ground.
