Occurrence Remarks: I collect a couple of thousand shagbark hickory nuts every year. My favorite place to collect is a patch of woods right out in front of Burlington high school because there are several hundred mature trees within 50 feet of a paved trail that goes through the woods. I store the nuts in a large plastic tub. In the first couple of weeks of storage dozens to hundreds (highy variable from year to year) of these larvae chew their way out of the nuts.
Establishment Means: wild
